Indoor and Sheltered Swimming Pools in Singapore
Most public pools in Singapore are open to the sky, so families and adult learners often look for an indoor or sheltered pool. A roof gives shade from the midday sun and makes a lesson more comfortable. Here are the sheltered public pools we know well, what each one offers, and how to book lessons there with HydroSplash.
Singapore’s sheltered public pools include Heartbeat@Bedok, Sengkang Swimming Complex, Tampines Swimming Complex at Our Tampines Hub and Jurong West Swimming Complex. HydroSplash coaches can teach at any of them, and at a heated pool, whenever you ask.
Indoor Swimming Pool Singapore: Indoor vs Sheltered
An indoor pool sits fully inside a building. A sheltered pool has a roof overhead but stays open at the sides, so air still moves through. In Singapore, the public pools run by ActiveSG are sheltered rather than fully indoor, and that suits the warm climate well.
For a lesson, the roof is what matters most. It keeps the strong sun off the water and off your skin, so learners can focus on breathing and floating instead of squinting at the glare.
Heartbeat@Bedok ActiveSG Swimming Complex
Heartbeat@Bedok sits on Level 5 of Heartbeat@Bedok, 11 Bedok North Street 1. It has an 8-lane competition pool, an 8-lane sheltered training pool, a learner pool and an interactive pool with play features and a jacuzzi.
It opens 8am to 9:30pm on every day except Thursday, when it is closed unless that Thursday is a public holiday. Read more about the venue on our Heartbeat@Bedok pool guide.
Sengkang Swimming Complex
Sengkang Swimming Complex is at 57 Anchorvale Road, and ActiveSG lists a sheltered pool there. It opens 8am to 9:30pm every day except Monday, with the competition pool also opening from 6:30am to 8am on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
It is a popular choice for families in Sengkang and Punggol. Our Sengkang Swimming Complex guide covers the pools and the best times to swim.
Tampines Swimming Complex at Our Tampines Hub
Tampines Swimming Complex is on Level 6 of Our Tampines Hub, 1 Tampines Walk, and ActiveSG describes it as a sheltered pool. It opens 8am to 9:30pm every day except Tuesday, and the training pool also opens from 6:30am to 8am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Being inside a large community hub makes it easy to combine a lesson with errands. See our Tampines Swimming Complex guide for more.
Jurong West Swimming Complex
Jurong West Swimming Complex was the first swimming complex in Singapore with a sheltered Olympic-sized pool. It also has a teaching pool, a jacuzzi, a kiddy pool, a lazy river and a water playground.
It is at 20 Jurong West Street 93 and opens 8am to 9:30pm every day except Tuesday. Our Jurong West Swimming Complex guide has the details.
Heated Pools for Lessons
The ActiveSG pool pages we checked describe sheltered pools, and heated water is currently absent from their listings. Heated pools in Singapore are usually private ones, such as a condominium, club or hotel pool.
If you would like lessons in a heated pool, tell us which pool you have in mind. Our coaches are happy to book it and teach there, with any pool charges agreed with you first. If your condo pool is the easiest option, our private condo swimming lessons bring the coach to you.
Booking Lessons at a Sheltered or Heated Pool
HydroSplash coaches can teach at any of the sheltered pools above, and at a heated pool, whenever you ask for it. Pick the pool that is closest to your home or office, and we arrange the coach and the timing.
Any extra cost, such as pool entry or a private pool booking, is agreed with you before the first lesson. For a pool beyond this list, see Singapore’s public swimming pools, or contact us to ask.
Lessons for Adults and Children
Sheltered pools work well for both adult swimming lessons and kids swimming lessons. Adults who feel nervous in the water often find a shaded pool calmer, and children stay comfortable for the whole session.
Tell us the learner’s age, current level and preferred pool, and we suggest a lesson plan that fits.
